Services

The City of Berkeley Lake provides solid waste and recycling services within its city limits through contracted services. The city accepts bids and awards an exclusive right to haul waste and recyclables to a single waste hauler. We all benefit from that effort by:

Reduced noise pollution

Reduced air pollution

Reduced wear and tear on city streets

Citizens subscribe to services from and pay for those services directly to the exclusive waste hauling provider. The waste hauling provider pays a franchise fee to the city quarterly based on revenues. The current waste hauling provider is Waste Management.

City Involvement

There is no overlap in service with the county.

Other than street maintenance, right of way maintenance, and the RFP process, there is no direct cost to the City of Berkeley Lake for providing solid waste services in the manner described above.

Franchise fees are paid to the city’s general fund. Although not specifically earmarked for street and right-of-way maintenance, those fees help defray associated costs
