The city strives to protect and promote the health, safety, and welfare of the present and future citizens of Berkeley Lake through the use of best planning and development practices and the responsible enforcement of ordinances.

Building codes and zoning ordinances shape the nature of our city. They place restrictions on unbounded property rights and construction in order to achieve an environment in the interest of the citizens. Without those ordinances, our city would evolve into something many of us would dislike. The full authority of a city, especially a small one, empowers us to mold our government to our specific community requirements.
