In 2017, Berkeley Lake was recognized among the Top 10 Best Suburbs to Live in Georgia, according to Niche.com, based on data from a number of sources including the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI's Uniform Crime Report and others. Our city got an overall A+ rating and top mark in the "good for families" category.

Berkeley Lake local business LAN Systems was named #1 on Atlanta's Best Places to Work - Small Businesses in 2016 by the Atlanta Business Chronical.

Tree City USA

Since 1999, The City of Berkeley Lake has enjoyed the distinction of being a Tree City USA® city as awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation. 

The Tree City USA® program provides direction, assistance, attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities.

2009 Urban & Community Forest Grant

In 2009, the City of Berkeley Lake was awarded a $15,000 grant from the Georgia Forestry Commission for the 'Maintaining a Sustainable Urban Forest' project. 

The purpose of the project is to complete the Urban Forest Assessment project started in 2008 as an i-Tree Pilot Project with the USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station and then take the results to develop a Street Tree Master Planting Plan and Best Practices recommendations for sustaining the Berkeley Lake greenspace, educate our citizens, and revise our current tree ordinance.

Tree City Growth Award

The Tree City USA Growth Award is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Services, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America.

This award is designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help the leaders of all Tree City USA's plan for improving community tree care.

In 2009, the City of Berkeley Lake, along with more than 500 Tree City USA communities, earned the Growth Award by strengthening our local tree care programs.

Urban Wildlife Sanctuary

The City of Berkeley Lake has been designated as an Urban Wildlife Sanctuary by the Humane Society of the United Stat

The award is in recognition of our significant greenspace, abundant water supply, and safe locations for wildlife to raise their young, as well as our commitment to using humane approaches for resolving conflicts with wildlife.

Recycler of the Year

The City of Berkeley Lake is proud to announce that we were named '2006 Recycler of the Year' by Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful.
